Northern California The only bad part about hitching into town for a resupply or zero day is that you have to hitch back out, which can be very time consuming. Chester was a fairly easy hitch but I still didn't get back to the trail until after 10 am. Lunched under the bridge spanning the north fork of the Feather River. While not as impressive as the middle fork it was still a beautiful spot. Took the side trip to Terminal Geyser later in the afternoon. Not a true geyser it is more of a steam vent. Giant clouds of sulphur-laden steam poured from it's opening. A small boiling stream of water, too hot to touch, flowed down the rocks. I noticed that these scalding waters flowed down the hill & mixed with the cold water of a nearby brook. I headed for this intersection & dipped my feet in the hot/cold/hot/cold water. Delicious. Skipped a possible dinner at Drakesbad Guest Ranch- I wanted to put in at least 20 miles with my late start. Now camped at the junction to Summit Lake, on a pine-needle covered flat spot perfect for my bivy with a nearby creek for water. Perfect. I am ready for another 1,300 miles... Send Bearcan't an email or sign the guestbook at his photoblog. |
