Southern California Hikertown. Weird vibe. Pete & I saw the water outside the fence, but ventured inside the compound. Several small buildings, all doors open. Thought I saw a hiker box. The caretaker, Bob, just awoken from his afternoon nap, called us over to the lawn of the main house. He told us the owner was away, but we were welcome to stay. Awkward silence followed by awkward small talk. "Need to go to the store?" Mouth salivating... cold drinks... "sure"... You know the movie. The one where the family is killed & the killer moves in, an evil impostor, a surrogate for his victims. I could see the butchered bodies stacked neatly in the basement. Never been so wrong in my entire life. Bob is a great guy who went out of his way to get 2 parched hikers a cold drink on a hot day. Thanks Bob, we owe you... Send Bearcan't an email or sign the guestbook at his photoblog. |
