Washington Cold...freezing cold... I awoke at 3 am shivering to find the temperature had plummeted to the low 20s. The condensation on the inside of my bivy was frozen, as was my full dromedary bag! My thermal underwear tops & bottoms were inadequate. I got up and put on my down jacket & rain pants and crawled back into my bag. This helped but I was still chilled the rest of the night. I got up as soon as the first rays of the sun hit the bivy. I hung my bag & bivy on a tree branch to thaw while I had a cup of coffee in the warm sunshine. It was going to be another clear and beautiful day. Reached the Urich Shelter, a beautiful cabin, at 11 am & decided to hang out for an hour eating a leisurely lunch. I wish I had stayed here last night- the wood-burning stove would have kept me nice & toasty. Camped above Sheets Pass at a nice campsite beside a seasonal (dry) creek. 26 miles to Snoqualmie Pass tomorrow… Send Bearcan't an email or sign the guestbook at his photoblog. |
